$2 Tuesday - a "Wild" Adventure

Last week it was $2 Tuesday at the Oregon Zoo. We only live ten minutes from the zoo, you can’t beat two bucks and we needed to take an adventure, so the Mecham family packed a lunch and went to the zoo.
It was craziness. Holy line of all lines! We got there around 10 A.M. and the line down the street was at least a 150 yards long, and that was just the line to get into the lines to buy your ticket to get into the zoo. I was imaging my mother being there and I had to laugh at the thought of her hyperventilating with all those people crammed together – she’s not one for crowds.
When we got into the zoo we went straight to the lorikeets. As a kid this was always my favorite part of the zoo. You buy this cup of nectar for a dollar and you go into the lorikeet enclosure and the birds fly down and land on you and eat the nectar out of the cup you are holding in your hand. Good times! I, of course, wanted to share this experience with Luke. But the lorikeet nectar lady said that they were already full from all the people who had fed them already (which is stinking pathetic considering the exhibit opened less than a half an hour before we got there; yeah, that’s how many people were there.) So I boycotted the lorikeets and decided that if we couldn’t feed them then we weren’t even going to waste our time in their exhibit. HA!
*There is an orangutan in the box being ever so modest and covering up it's privates. "Thank you for the thoughtful consideration Mr. Orangutan. No visitor wants to be emotionally scarred at the zoo. Especially not on such a wonderful day as $2 Tuesday."*
*Eating lunch*

Aslynn actually looked at animals and was somewhat interested. The last zoo we went to, not so much;she was just along for the ride at that one. She liked the sea lions the best. Luke took her right up to the glass and this one sea lion just kept swimming loop-de-loops right past where they were standing. Z had this look on her face of “Oh my gosh, that thing is huge! WOW! Cool! Is it coming back?”

Luke bounced Z to sleep for her nap as we watched the “Predators of the Sky” show. He liked how all the birds of prey flew down by the audience and then to their perches. He decided that next time we go to the zoo we have to be in the actual audience sitting on the grass; he has even picked out the spot we are going to sit.
*This monkey had some serious beef (either that or it just didn't want us to watch it eat it's lunch) with Luke. It stopped eating and stared straight at Luke for like 5 minutes. I thought that it was going to hurl itself through the chain-link and glass and smash Luke's head like a coconut.*
*Are these pig/warthog-things not the ugliest thing you have ever seen?*
*Teenage elephant*

When we left the zoo at 1:30 PM (we had to go home and get some work done) the line was just as long as when we had first gotten there. Gross.
All in all, it was a great adventure!

Oh my goodness. Z has more hair than the monkey! (Kinda) She is so gorgeous! Seth didn't do so hot on his GRE, it is kinda a touchy subject...but he is scheduled for Sept 5 and is still working hard. We bought everything Kaplan had to offer.
