My name is Aslynn Jean Mecham and I am way too cute for my own good.

Hi!

This one is for you Aunt Melissa.

This video is sort of long...but it is quality entertainment. Promise.

Getting Bigger

Aslynn is 1 month old today! It doesn’t seem like it’s been a month; a week maybe, but not a month. Lack of sleep has made me lose track of time. Speaking of lack of sleep, if anyone knows how to make a baby sleep in her own bed, let me know.

Let’s see here…not much to report. Aslynn has been taking her pacifier more and more which is nice for us because when she thinks she’s hungry and she’s really not (she wants to do is “nurse” herself to sleep) we just give her the bink and she goes to sleep without the unnecessary harm to my nipples.
*Aslynn's second week of Church wearing a headband that Becky made her and an outfit that used to be mine. The sweater is a little big - I had to roll up the sleeves - but she still looks cute. Obviously, she's very excited about the thought of attending Church - kinda reminds me of the High Council men. Just Kidding!*

She’s also figured out that if she cries loud enough for an extended period of time and if she hits a high enough pitch someone will come and pick her up. She even stops crying and looks around for a few seconds to see if anyone is coming to get her and if she can’t see anyone she starts up again. Of course she immediately stops crying once someone does pick her up. We call this her “FAKER” cry. So most of the time we wait it out and she stops crying and realizes that she’s really okay because Luke and I are at least in the room with her.

Ben, Melina and Arianna came to visit over the long weekend. It was a lot of fun to have them all here. We had fun playing games and visiting.

Luke and I love having company but we figured out that we need to get a bigger apartment or at least reorganize the furniture if we are going to have two babies in the house; there just isn’t enough room.
*Only she can get him to smile this way*

Aslynn’s nose was stuffed up last night and no amount of bulb suctioning could clear it out. She didn’t sleep well. She’s used to breathing out her nose so she would fall asleep for a few minutes and then try to suck in a lot of air through her nose and wouldn’t be able to so it would wake her up and she would whine and cry a little and need someone to cuddle her before she went back to sleep. I slept in 15 minute spurts all night because of this. But I’m perky, can’t you tell?

Luke is still trying to find a job. We would appreciate all the prayers we can get in this matter; I think that we will need it with the way the economy is right now.

Nothing else much going on. I promise to report back when there is something to report back on.

I couldn’t post all the pictures here so there are some new ones on Facebook if you want to check those out.

Livin' the Life

I’ve been thinking a lot (I know scary, but bear with me) about the whole giving birth process. It’s humiliating. Thinking back on it different things come to mind. Things like: What the heck was I thinking spreading my legs and showing my hoo-ha to people I didn’t even know. Hoo-ha’s are not pretty. I never wanted anyone looking that closely at it, especially someone I don’t even know. I should have gotten a Brazilian wax. I pushed someone out of my hoo-ha in front of a doctor who has seen a whole lot of hoo-ha’s in his life; what if mine was the ugliest one he ever saw? Luke is seriously probably emotionally scarred for life because he saw me push a kid out. Ew. I was not in my right mind when this whole thing happened or else I never would have done it. What about contractions make a woman’s inhibitions disappear to the point where she will stoop low enough to let the whole world see her privates? Giving birth is humiliating. The end of my thinking about it.

Today is my birthday. I am a whole 22 years old today. It was pretty much just like any other day. My mom told me that when you have kids your birthday just kind of goes away, and it did and I am okay with it; it really wasn’t “my day.” I didn’t really even tell anyone it was my birthday. I didn’t want it to be a big deal anyway. I always feel like spending money on myself or people spending money on me is a waste of money (money 3 times in one sentence) because that money (4) could be spent on other, much more productive things.

But birthdays do come with great things. My parents called and sang to me like they always do; relatives who call and sing to you is the best way to start out any day, especially if they are singing to and or about you. CarolAnn and Liz (the awesome girls I work with) snuck out and bought me ice cream, a chicken sandwich and Doritos – smorgasbord of food from the school cafeteria, funny, memorable and awesome. To top it off Jenny and Logan are coming over tonight to make tacos.

Aslynn update.

She’s getting pretty good at holding up her head. When she’s lying on my chest she almost always has her head up trying to look around.

She’s starting to get her nights and days mixed up. She’s alive, awake, alert, enthusiastic at about 11:30 pm each night.

Luke is beginning to feel left out. I snuggle with the baby more than him because she needs it more. Luke and I are very snuggly people and the fact that we can’t snuggle with one another as much as we did is very hard to adjust to. We miss snuggle time with each other A LOT.

We took her to Church on Sunday. She slept through Sacrament. We told her that this was okay until she started Primary.

Aslynn got her first real bath this week too. It was an okay experience. She’ll get used to it.

We got photo documentation of her most recent massive spit up. I still laugh until I cry every time because Luke is so grossed out by “curdled milk.”

Debut of the Bellybutton

*Sleepy baby hiding in her blanket*

In case you were wondering, our daughter’s name is pronounced As-(like the word “as”) Lynn. We’re having issues with pronunciation lately. Everyone seems to think that it is Ass-lynn. It’s not. If I hear you say it wrong, I’ll throw snow in your face because it is the meanest thing I can think of doing right now.

Jean is easy. If you don’t know how to say “Jean” you need to go back to elementary school. Jean, in case you were wondering, is my grandmother’s middle name. My grandma Shirley is pretty much the most amazing woman on the planet; it only makes sense that my first-born would have her name.

For the first half of the week Aslynn and I spent the night on the couch. Luke was VERY, VERY sick – so sick that he went to the doctor (shocker!) – and we were advised to keep the baby away from him until he was better. The couch was nice until the baby decided to try and pull an all-nighter. Luke woke up to both Aslynn and I crying on the couch. We’re all back in the bedroom now and things are much better. I think Z just missed her dad. Now we’re all just praying that no one else gets sick.

Aslynn’s umbilical cord fell off on Tuesday. It was a good thing that Luke was there when I found it (I was changing her diaper) because I screamed and pretty much had a breakdown. Luke cleaned up some of the blood and Z didn’t seem to mind. Her mother on the other hand still minds and is still worried about the blood. The picture is what it looked like on that first day. I will get more pictures when it is done healing because in all honesty, it grosses me out and makes me worry that she is going to bleed to death – but obviously she isn’t because it barely bleeds at all…in “mom standards” it is a lot of blood; in “dad standards” it isn’t even worth cleaning up.

We had another spit up experience on Wednesday. It required me to wash my pants. Problem is that I washed my pants without removing items from the pockets. I no longer have a cell phone. I washed it. It is very dead and not coming back to life. Sad day. I feel so cut off from the world.
At the peditrician's today, Aslynn weighed 9 lb., and she was 21 1/2 in. long. She's getting very big. Luke and I are wondering when all this growing happened; the kid is only 2 1/2 weeks old.

*This is the hickey that Aslynn gave Luke on his arm. She did it in about 5 seconds - pretty impressive*

*After her bath. Seriously, she gets the hiccups at least four times a day*
