Debut of the Bellybutton

*Sleepy baby hiding in her blanket*

In case you were wondering, our daughter’s name is pronounced As-(like the word “as”) Lynn. We’re having issues with pronunciation lately. Everyone seems to think that it is Ass-lynn. It’s not. If I hear you say it wrong, I’ll throw snow in your face because it is the meanest thing I can think of doing right now.

Jean is easy. If you don’t know how to say “Jean” you need to go back to elementary school. Jean, in case you were wondering, is my grandmother’s middle name. My grandma Shirley is pretty much the most amazing woman on the planet; it only makes sense that my first-born would have her name.

For the first half of the week Aslynn and I spent the night on the couch. Luke was VERY, VERY sick – so sick that he went to the doctor (shocker!) – and we were advised to keep the baby away from him until he was better. The couch was nice until the baby decided to try and pull an all-nighter. Luke woke up to both Aslynn and I crying on the couch. We’re all back in the bedroom now and things are much better. I think Z just missed her dad. Now we’re all just praying that no one else gets sick.

Aslynn’s umbilical cord fell off on Tuesday. It was a good thing that Luke was there when I found it (I was changing her diaper) because I screamed and pretty much had a breakdown. Luke cleaned up some of the blood and Z didn’t seem to mind. Her mother on the other hand still minds and is still worried about the blood. The picture is what it looked like on that first day. I will get more pictures when it is done healing because in all honesty, it grosses me out and makes me worry that she is going to bleed to death – but obviously she isn’t because it barely bleeds at all…in “mom standards” it is a lot of blood; in “dad standards” it isn’t even worth cleaning up.

We had another spit up experience on Wednesday. It required me to wash my pants. Problem is that I washed my pants without removing items from the pockets. I no longer have a cell phone. I washed it. It is very dead and not coming back to life. Sad day. I feel so cut off from the world.
At the peditrician's today, Aslynn weighed 9 lb., and she was 21 1/2 in. long. She's getting very big. Luke and I are wondering when all this growing happened; the kid is only 2 1/2 weeks old.

*This is the hickey that Aslynn gave Luke on his arm. She did it in about 5 seconds - pretty impressive*

*After her bath. Seriously, she gets the hiccups at least four times a day*
