3 Months

Sept. 14, 2011
Dear Eleanor I-Can-Put-My-Whole-Fist-In-My-Mouth Mecham,

You are getting so big!  Every day you do something new.  I feel like time has been flying by and it is kind of freaking me out.  Before I know it you'll be as big as your sister and trying to boss me around the way she does.  You're not going to do that, right?  You're going to be nice to me, right?! I'm just joshin' ya; you're sister is not that bad.  But let me just say this: the "terrible twos" are real and I am not looking forward to yours.

You are doing so many new things; I am just going to make a list them all, one by one and in no particular order.

You are really enjoying your play mat lately. I think it is because you have started to knowingly/purposely grab onto things. It's open up so many toy opportunities for you!

When you're nursing you grab onto my shirt and hold tight.  This makes it very difficult to put you down when you fall asleep because I have to pry your fingers off of my shirt which wakes you up. I call this death grip your "alarm system."

You discovered your feet. You suck on your toes.  When we are changing your diaper you wrap your arms around your ankles and fold yourself in half which makes wiping your cute little hiney very easy.  Thanks for the help!

You fell off the bed.  It's my fault, but it is yours too.  One morning you just up and figured out how to push yourself across whatever surface you are lying on by digging your heels in the bed/floor and kicking; this action propels you backwards.  Since you can only do this while on your back, I decided that "tummy time" would happen more than just a half hour a day.  This plan backfired. You, Little Miss Smarty Pants, quickly learned how to roll over.  You flop onto your back and scoot away.  I leave you alone for two minutes and when I come back, you are two feet away from where I left you.

You've rolled from your back to your belly a couple of times now.  No one has seen you do it but me (not even the camera) so I'm feeling pretty special.

You smile and laugh all the time.  When you are tired, you find everything hilarious.  We were driving to the park a yesterday and it was past your nap time, Aslynn was talking to you and you were laughing and laughing.  Aslynn loves it when you laugh at/with her.

You are ticklish on your sides and ribs - just like me!

You are such a copy-cat.  It all started with the tongue.  I was sticking mine out at you and you stuck yours out at me!  I blew raspberries at you and you did it right back!  Daddy was especially impressed with this talent.  You also copy sounds.  The best ones are "Ooooo" and spit gurgles (which no one will understand except our family and Grandma Sherry.)

In the morning, after I unwrap you from your swaddle, your arms shoot up past your head and you strrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeetccccccccch for a long time.  Then you and I have a nice chat and you eat your toes to see if their flavor changed while you were sleeping.

Too much time on your back has given you a flat-ish head.  It's getting better though, I promise.  Soon your melon will be more...well, round and melon shaped.

Did you notice how I addressed this letter?  Well, it's true. You love to have your hands in your mouth.  You also love to gnaw on grown-up knuckles.  If you get a hold of my or your dad's knuckles you shove them in your mouth like a monster and move your head back and forth while chowing down.  I hope you're not already teething; I haven't felt and sharpness yet, just a lot of tough gums.

I'll tell you more about yourself next month. I am sure you're going to be doing tons of new things that I can brag about! I love you a bushel and peck!

Mom

Now for the pictures:  there is no picture of you at 10 weeks because we were on vacation and the pictures we took are going to be in their own blog post.  Sorry!

*3 months.  This photo shoot didn't go very well because your sister wanted her picture taken and so she was moving around like crazy. You were watching her.  I call this look you are doing the, "What in the world? She's kind of freaking me out" look. *

*Aslynn says, "Mom!  Take my picture!"  Eleanor says, "Yuck!  This hand tastes gross!"*
