Happy Birthday, Aslynn!

And the award for the World's Top Notch Slacker Blogger goes to me. My acceptance speech is rockin' awesome but you don't get to read it because...I haven't written it yet. Procrastination is my middle name.

Aslynn's birthday was in January. We celebrated with a family birthday party and a friend birthday party. It is just crazy to think of how fast time is passing!

Princess Aslynn,

Baby, you are getting so big! You are three years old going on sixteen! Sometimes you drive me crazy with the things you do and say. You are making me realize that being a parent isn't about controlling the chaos, it is about loving the chaos and helping it become something wonderful! You test and push me every day. Most of the time you drive me nuts. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though! You teach me at least one thing every day; you are helping become a better mother! I love you!

*Posing in/with some of the things you got for your birthday.*

I thought that I would tell you a little bit about yourself, the way you are right now. You probably won't remember this time of your life and to be honest, I might forget too. If I write it down, we can look back and remember together.

When you were born your daddy and I made up a song just for you, about you! I don't think that I have ever written down the lyrics. No time like the present!

Who's the prettiest girl we know?
Aslynn Jean. Aslynn Jean.
She's so spoiled she runs the show!
Aslynn Jean. Aslynn Jean.
She gets smarter every day!
Aslynn Jean. Aslynn Jean.
We love her lots; we'll let her stay!
Sound off - Aslynn.
Sound off - Jean.
Sound off - Aslynn Mecham!

You know this song is yours! All we have to do is sing the first couple of words and you sing your name! I hope this can be your song for your whole life!

*I'm not going to lie - this face is kind of creepy.*

You say the silliest things! Recently your favorite lines are:
"I gotta tell you something"..."It's gonna be real quick!" You say these lines when you are avoiding doing something, like going to bed.
"I just love you but (insert something you want or why you are annoyed here). I don't know where you came up with this one but it cracks me up!
"That's a good deal. Okay?" You started saying this one to me after I started saying things like "You have to take a nap and when you wake up we'll go for a walk. Deal?" Now you give your own versions of "deals;" most of the time they are silly and contradict the one I just offered.

Did you know this story is about you?

You will make friends with anyone! We go to the park and you find someone your age to play with and he/she is automatically your friend.

80% of the time you don't take a nap. You play in your room, making it impossible for Eleanor to go to sleep. You = Pill Face. Pill Face = Typical Three Year Old. I love it when you take a nap because then I can actually get things done, like clean the house. Cleaning the house when you and your sister are awake is like shoveling snow in a snowstorm.

When you want to be, you are are a great helper! You are very good at picking up your toys and books. You are great big sister! You play with Eleanor all the time. In the morning, you keep her entertained when she is in her crib so that I can get an extra 15 minutes of sleep. Thank you, Munchkin!

You are your fathers daughter - you love to sing and dance. You make up songs. You are your mother's daughter - you memorize things - like books, songs and movie lines - quickly. For example, last night you started singing "Crazy girl! Don't you know that I love you? I wouldn't dream of going nowhere!" I didn't even know you knew that song! Your daddy taught you to sing "Girl look at that body! I work out! I'm sexy and I know it!" I find it inappropriate, and hilarious all at the same time. You love the song "Stuck Like Glue" by Sugarland.

I can always count on you to spout off song or movie quotes at random times. You are awesome!

You also love to read (another quality you got from me)! When Grandma Sherry came to visit recently, you guys read every book you own, some of them you even read twice!

You know your ABC's and can count to twenty. You know that your name beings with the letter A and you draw it on every one of your projects to show that you did them. Soon we will start working on writing the rest of your name. You can also sight read quite a few letters. We play "I Spy" all the time! Often we will "spy" certain letters on storefronts; you are very good at finding the right letter and pointing it out.

You've started to play with imaginary friends. The one that turns up the most is a purple dragon named "Angela."

*When I tell you to smile, this is the face you make.*

On your actual birthday, I asked you some questions. I call it the "Mommy Interview." I plan on asking you the same questions every year to see how your answers change. These are your answers from this year.

What is your name?
Aslynn

How old are you?
You show me three fingers and say "two." I tell you to count your fingers and you say, "Twenty!"

What is your favorite color? Pink.

What is your favorite animal?
A big giraffe and a small giraffe!

What is your favorite toy? A unicorn toy and a butterfly toy. (I have no idea what toys you are talking about.)

What is your favorite movie?
Santa Clause movie. I ask you what it is about and you say "With a beard on it. Two Santa Clauses." I ask you what happens in the movie and you say, "They get married."
(I don't think this is your favorite movie; I think this is just one of the ones you watched recently.)

What is your favorite snack?
Fruit Snacks. Graham crackers.

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Waffles. (With chocolate - a.k.a. Nutella)

What is your favorite thing to eat for lunch?
Bread.

What is your favorite thing to eat for dinner? Mac and Cheese.

What is your favorite game? A Princess game.

What is your favorite song? Jasmine. I ask, "What's a Jasmine song?" You sing, "I like to see Jasmine! No I don't. Yes I dooooo!" I ask you, "What's your favorite song to listen to in the car?" You say, "My mouse song."

What is your favorite book? A princess book. Aurora and Cinderella.

Where is your favorite place to go?
Aunt Chelle's house.

What is your favorite thing about your sister?
You just smiled and laughed at this one. I improvised and asked, "Why do you love Eleanor?" You said, "Cause I do!"

What makes you happy?
Ponies.

What makes you sad?
Bad guys.

What would you like to learn more about now that you're 3? About Jesus.

What do you love about yourself?
You picked your nose and changed the subject. I don't really think you understood the question.

What does Daddy do at work? He picks up the dragon. (There are BIG dinosaur statues on the way to Daddy's work and one day the wind blew them over. You were concerned so you asked Daddy to pick them up when he went to work. He said he would; next time we drove by them they were picked up.) You other answer was, "He eats lunch."

What do we do at home?
Teach preschool. Teach preschool at church. I love Jesus!

What do you like to take to bed with you at night? Hummmm. My little doggie. (You don't really have one particular thing you take to bed with you. It varies on the night and your mood. Your bed holds many, many stuffed animals and toys. Sometimes there is barely room for you to sleep!)

What do you pray about?
Jesus. Name of thy son Jesus Christ, Amen.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Ghost.

I love you, Aslynn Jean!
Mom

Want to see a couple of silly pictures of you?
*This is a beginning-blink "mom, please" face.*

*This could be a "mid-laugh" face. I don't know! It cracks me up though! This picture will embarrass you for the rest of time. I will show it to all of your boyfriends.*

DISCLAIMER: Most of these pictures and video were taken on my phone.  Convenience wins out over quality.
