Luke really likes to sleep now – which is no surprise considering the virus he has – and I am okay with that. Z and I like to sleep in and I’ve been pretty tired lately with her sporadic sleeping patterns. So the Mecham house sleeps in and naps 12 – 14 hours a day.
Since Aslynn’s been mobile she’s been working on perfecting the art of soldier crawling and she can (as Grandma Sherry learned while she was here) really book it across the room when she wants to get somewhere.
If there is any kind of paper on the floor she will find it, and she will eat it. She’s also started to pull herself up to a standing position using coffee tables, bookshelves, crib bars, jumperoo and couch. Since this adventure started we are unable to put paper on anything but a “grown-up access” surface only. If it is lower than a “grown-up” surface she will pull it off/down and eat it.
The new talent of pull-up standing has resulted in more bumps, bruises, scratches and knocks on the noggin, legs and arms. She is so brave though; she falls down, wants a snuggle to make it feel better and then she wants you to put her back where she was so she can try it again. “Get back on that horse,” I tell her.
She’s not sleeping well. I don’t want to talk about it – unless you have an idea of how to make her sleep through the night. Then I’ll talk about it.
It’s been hot lately (not as hot as California though so I’m not complaining too much). We have fans going all the time and it still gets up to almost 90 degrees in our apartment. Z does not like the heat any more than the rest of us.
We’ve put some of her water-filled toys in the freezer so she can suck on them when she gets too miserable. She also has a sippy cup filled with cold water that she can hold herself and drink out of when she needs a bit of chilled refreshment. (I was trying to make water sound more romantic…all I came up with in 15 seconds was “chilled refreshment”; I’ll keep working on it.)
We’ve been feeding her baby food vegetables for a while now. She knows the time when she usually gets to eat and she reminds us by whining.
I taught her at the beginning that she can’t touch the spoon and she kept her hands to herself 90% of the time. But, I set some sort of a double standard because I would give her the red sippy cup after she was done eating so that she could drink/play with some water. Problem was that she was used to not be allowed to use her hands so she would get frustrated when I would set it down in front of her because she couldn’t drink it. She didn’t understand that I wanted her to hold the cup but not the spoon. I’m a horrible mother. She’s figured it out now though.
Now her new nasty trick is to put her hands in her mouth between bites. It makes a huge mess and she’s learned that if she does it enough times Mean Mommy takes away the yummy veggies.
She likes pretty much everything…but the peas are so thick they make her gag and eventually she gives up on eating them. I don’t blame her; I think they taste HORRIBLE!
