Moving Along for the 10th Time

I don’t want to bore you with all the details of moving, because let’s face it, moving is stressful but very boring. So I’ll just hit the highlights for you – and also for me so that in the future when Luke says “Hey, remember that time we moved to California and…”, I won’t have to say, “Which time?!"

We packed the truck with lots of help from friends and family May 28th and 29th. We hit the road on the 29th after a wonderful breakfast with my family and Luke’s brother Drew and his beautiful wife, Kim.

My family went to an Eagles concert that night. We had them crash in our empty apartment because who needs a hotel when there is a perfectly good, vacant apartment?

I loved moving out of the Portland apartment the most. Want to know why? Being the manager has its perks. No deposit = no cleaning. I just called the painters, cleaners, blind and carpet guys to come in after my family left and take care of all that stuff. Leaving the apartment spotless was my biggest stress from previous moves. It was grand not to have to worry about a thing!

We drove the gigantic Penske truck – that we somehow managed to fill, “How did we get so much STUFF?!” – to California.

We drove and we drove and we drove and we drove and we drove and we drove and we stopped in the middle of the night, got a hotel room because Z was sleeping HORRIBLY in her car seat (poor baby) and slept for a few hours. Then we got back into the truck and we drove and we drove and we drove some more.

We got to Yucca Valley Sunday afternoon (May 30th). Luke’s wonderful family fed us then helped us unload the entire truck that evening.

No, I still do not have all the boxes unpacked. I know, I’m lazy.
